Crucifixion of Identity. 1973
Print on paper

A monitor at the intersection of the two planks of the wooden cross lined with sandpaper is connected to a video camera and two electro-optical circuits hidden in the horizontal plank. Only by standing on the platform and assuming the shape of a cross, can the viewer see his or her image on the screen. Like Observation of Observation: Uncertainty, also featured in this part of the catalogue, Crucifixion of Identity draws our attention to the problematic nature of representation. No matter how much we twist and turn, we will only see the image of ourselves that the medium allows us to see.
